Vittala International Institute of Ophthalmology, supported with funds from Sri Keshava Trust, started rendering the OPD services from 29th October 2001 and the inpatients service was started from the month of March 2002.

Facilities

The hospital consists of 5 floors with a capacity to house 80-100 beds. The basement has a 200 seated auditorium where Continuing Medical Programs and monthly PG meets are conducted and a Cafeteria which provides catering services round the clock to all the inpatients, camp patients and also to the hospital staff at subsidized rates. Basement also houses a Central Gas room and Records Room.

The Ground Floor Consists of 4 general consultation rooms with specialty clinics for Retina, Glaucoma, Cornea and Squint and Oculoplastics, Uvea clinic which are functioning at present. The hospital also has an Optical Shop and its own Pharmacy.

The first floor consists of OT Complex, which has 5 Operation theatres equipped with State of Art German Operating Micro Scopes and Phaco emulsification and Vitrectomy Machines.

The entire OT has filtered air, which is passed through a filtering system removing dust up to .3 microns. The OT has Flooring and Wall coated with Epoxy, which is the recommended flooring material worldwide for OTs. Provision for Eximer laser OT for refractive corneal surgery has also been provided which will be commissioned at a later date. The first floor also houses the eye bank and Cornea Grafting Center, along with the general wards.

The Second floor houses laboratories for Ocular pathology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry. In addition it provides 40 free beds. This floor also has the custom ocular prosthesis unit.

Third floor provides 40 beds in the west wing for free patients

Fourth Floor is fully equipped with Solar Water Heating Systems, which provides continuous hot water facilities to all the floors, including free patient's wards. The library is situated on the same floor with large number of books needed for Doctors and DNB students.
