One of the few pre Independence institutes pan India, Prabha has been into Eye Care since 1940.
Our Founder - Dr. B K Narayana Rao was known for his selfless, dedicated, and single minded devotion in ensuring that the best in health care is extended to every cross section of the society. He was one of the first Indian Ophthalmologists qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons, London. Like a true freedom fighter, he set out on his mission in realizing quality health care and his dream envisioned into - "Prabha Eye Clinic". He played an unparalleled role in the establishment of various medical institutes and hospitals - a few of them being, Bangalore Medical College (one of the oldest in the entire country) and Minto Regional Institute of Ophthalmology.
Dr. H Krishnamurthy took in the reins from where Dr. B K Narayana Rao had left, and played a pivotal role in establishing Prabha into a major and one of its kind institutes in the entire country. Over the next few decades Dr. H Krishnamurthy was instrumental in transforming Prabha Eye Clinic services into philanthropy - in providing free treatment to the deserving poor.
Dr. K R Murthy - affectionately called as KRM engrained the attributes of both Dr. B K Narayana Rao and Dr. H Krishnamurthy - a good concoction of excellence and empathy. A brilliant clinician and one of the most successful surgeons; his records continue to remain unsurpassed. Beneficiaries included prominent people like the President of India himself apart from various religious pontiffs. Innovative initiatives were the trademark of the Dr. K.R. Murthy forte. His passion towards imparting knowledge and training to his junior colleagues ensured the establishment of various institutes in Bangalore and Southern India in general.
Dr. K.R. Murthy had many firsts to his credit. A pioneer in his own right, he is the first ophthalmologist in Karnataka to provide specialized micro surgical procedures including Intraocular lens implant, retinal and glaucoma surgeries including congenital eye abnormalities. He is the recipient of many national and international awards. Dr. K.R. Murthy’s legacy is being continued by his dream team comprising of 15 specialists whom he had handpicked and carefully nurtured. Prabha has grown many folds but the founding principles till date remain unchanged.
